Disney's Aulani Resort on Oahu, Hawaii
Disney's Aulani Resort opened in 2011. It is situated west of Honolulu where there are a number of other major vacation resorts, and the Paradise Cove Luau. The archeticture is tremendous, and it is beautifully landscaped, peaceful, and playful. Here are some pictures taken duing the opening week.
Front guest entrance -- reminds me a lot of the resorts at Disney World.
Beautiful landscaping. On this day there were an army of worker keeping everything looking pristine.
Opening Week Filming: We saw a lot of people associated with the filming -- but didn't recognize any stars.
View from poolside & poolside dining. You can see a little of the waterslide here. A lazy river runs around this mountain.
Interesting items are setup on small "stages." I assume that there are occasional shows here.
Water park/pool in the Disney Aulani Resort courtyard. There is a poolside restaurant here, and just beyond is a fine dining restaurant on one side and a fast-food order window on the other...
Typical Disney touches -- here on a mail box -- no sure who gets mail here -- maybe Mickey himself -- the resort does include character dining, although we didn't see any characters while we were there.
Breathtaking building! The principal designer for the resort was Bo Bolanos (in cooperation with local architects, cultural experts, and Walt Disney Imagineering). He stated that his goal was to highlight the "beauty of storytelling and family – elements important to Hawaiian culture and to Disney – with a touch of magic.”
Directions to Aulani on Oahu, Hawaii
The Disney Aulani Resort is located 26 miles west of Honolulu. Take the H1 from Honolulu until it turns in the the Farrington Highway (93) -- Exit to Aliiuni and follow the road (past Paraside Cove Luau) to the Disney Resort.
